Family Fun Night Suggestion - Motown Music
Have You Ever Heard of Motown?
Cars and music?! Motown is the nickname of the city of Detroit, Michigan which is considered the "Motor capitol" of the world as it is credited as being the home of the three major auto industrial giants: Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, and GMC.
The Motown Music label was founded by Berry Gordy, Jr. in 1959. The name "Motown" comes from the combination of "Motor" + "Town" which is attributed to the "Motor City" - Detroit, Michigan - where the Motown Music label was founded.
Motown had a powerful influence on racial integration in the 1960s. Motown music was an African American label and supported the emergence of some of the period's most energized and popular music.
Motown evolved from soul music which combined rhythm and blues along with gospel music and pop. Motown music is energetic and naturally makes the body want to move. Hand claps, rhythmic stepping, choreographed motions - all are part of the characteristic Motown sound & action.
